The last few years have seen Father Time starting to catch up with my knees making walking on the golf course more and more difficult. My golf bag was great but heavy and I succumbed to the theory that having more pockets meant I needed to carry more stuff around. I went looking for a lightweight stand bag that would take some of the pressure off of my knees. After a lot of research and a few trial rounds I purchased the Izzo Ultra Lite Golf Stand Bag.
Product Description
The Izzo Ultra Light Golf Stand Bag has gone through a few product evolutionary cycles that has seen the bags weight drop by one pound. That’s a good reduction when you consider the bag started at 4.2 pounds. It currently is at 3.2 pounds. The lightest bag I encountered was 2.9 pounds which I was attracted to but the price was much higher. More on that later.
The bag has four club compartments with cloth dividers inside the bag. It has four pockets. On one side there is a full-length zippered pocket, along with a smaller waterproof velour lined zipper pocket for personal items. Another pocket in the center is where you would probably put your golf balls and tees. The last pocket is on the other side and is of generous size.
The stand part of the bag operates with the usual mechanism. It has operated well thus far.
The bag comes in a variety of attractive colors which does play into the price depending upon availability. The most expensive color I found was white which I is interesting because I thought that would create the need for a lot of cleaning.
Competitors
The competitors I looked at were much more expensive and tended to be last years models that were on sale. They still were significantly more expensive than the Izzo bag.
Sun Mountain 2022 3.5 LS – 3.8 lbs. – $129.00 on sale at TGW.
Nike Sport Lite Golf Bag – 4.1 lbs. – $179.00 on sale at TGW.
Callaway Hyperlite Golf Stand Bag – 3.0 lbs. – $149.00 at TGW.
All of these are very good bags and all of them were much more expensive than the Izzo bag. I’d probably put my number two selection with the Sun Mountain bag for a few different reasons. They make a good golf bag. It has ten pockets which is a good and a bad thing depending on your propensity to fill the pockets up. The other reason for choosing Sun Mountain is that I carry a mixed assortment of club brands so carrying a bag with a club brand on it just doesn’t seem right.
Pros & Cons
The Pros & Cons were generated from approximately 20 rounds of golf using the bag. About 15 of those rounds were walking with the other 5 being cart rounds. Cart rounds still provide wear on the bag between getting the bag out of the car, clubs going in and out of it and using the pockets to retrieve balls, tees, towels, etc….
Pros
- Price – The bag was significantly cheaper than the competitors. It allowed me to some degree have a “try out” with a lightweight bag without making a larger financial commitment.
- Lightweight – At 3.2 lbs. the bag was one of the lightest on the market that still offered the ability to carry a full set of clubs. It also offers enough storage to be efficient.
- Comfort – The bag is actually very comfortable while walking on the course. The straps are padded appropriately and easy to adjust.
- Construction – I haven’t experienced any problems with the quality of the construction of the bag. I read a few reviews on the bag that they had some seams that started to open up but these were few and far between.
Cons
- No Water Bottle Pocket – It seems like a small negative but one of the biggest features needed to be added to the bag is some form of mesh water bottle pocket. I tried putting the water bottle into the side pocket but just left the inside of the pocket wet and unusable for other items.
- Personal Item Pocket Too Small – The pocket that is designed to put your phone, keys and wallet in is a little too small. Just needs to be expanded by a few inches.
- Club Dividers – The cloth club dividers are attached to the bag at a few points but not all the way down the inside of the bag. This can occasionally create a situation where the club shaft ends up in a neighboring compartment making it a little difficult to get out. I haven’t had this happen too much at all but it was mentioned in some reviews.
Price
This was obviously an attractive aspect of the bag. Right now on Amazon the bag in black is going for $79.99 and $101.82 for the white color. I have seen it discounted to $69.99. I purchased mine in a royal blue color for $89.99.

Conclusion
I think the purchase of this bag comes down to a balanced decision between thinking you are buying it for several years versus buying a much more expensive one that you are hoping lasts for ten plus years. As I said, I didn’t purchase this thinking I was making a long-term financial commitment. I wanted to try out the lightweight carry bag. If I liked it, I will buy another more expensive bag when this one wears out.
The bag itself has a few drawbacks that you need to deal with like not having a water bottle pocket. It does however accomplish its mission as a lightweight bag with some storage that provides a comfortable walking experience on the golf course. I didn’t want a lot of pockets that people have a habit of filling up and adding weight.
Overall, I would rate the bag as a four out of five stars because it accomplishes what I and maybe you were looking for, simple lightweight comfortable walking transport of your golf gear.
